Specifications of 100% Natural Floral Foam™:
COMPLETELY NATURAL PRODUCT
Of our 100% Natural Floral Foam, only basalt flour remains behind over time, and this is a completely natural product.
Basalt flour is specifically intended for changing and improving clay soil, for example, and it contains silicon, trace elements and minerals. This not only makes heavy clay soil easier to work on, plants also thrive in it. This is because it strengthens the cell wall, stimulates growth, and allows bulb plants to root more deeply.
Where does the volcanic basalt come from and how is it transported to your factories?
Within 100 km of the factory; transported by truck.
What temperatures does it need to be heated to? How is this achieved (what fuel)?
It is heated to 1300°C using coal, and the rock wool is cured at 600° C using natural gas.
What is the requirement for water or other environmentally sensitive materials?
Not significant use of water & other natural resources.
Are there any by-products/waste products and how are these dealt with?
Basalt can contain steel residues, which are recycled in an iron foundry.
What are the eco-credentials the 100% Natural Flower Foam?
100 % Natural Floral Foam is made from natural ingredients instead of chemical substances.
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ADVANTAGES COMPARED TO THE REGULAR FLORAL FOAM

Is it harmful to the environment?
Our products are completely natural and therefore not harmful to the environment.
For which flowers or plants can it be used?
For every flower (silk, fresh or dry) and plant, also as a growth medium.
Can it be used dry or wet?
It can be used both wet and dry for all flowers and plants.
If the material becomes dry, can I add water to it and will it absorb it?
The material can be made wet again, and it will also retain the water.
Is it a completely natural product?
Yes it is completely natural.
Is it degradable?
Of our 100% Natural Floral Foam, only basalt flour remains behind over time, which is a completely natural product.
Basalt flour is specifically intended for changing and improving clay soil, for example, and contains silicon, trace elements and minerals. This not only makes heavy clay soil easier to work on, plants also thrive in it. This is because it strengthens the cell wall, stimulates growth, and allows bulb plants to root more deeply.
Another advantage of using basalt meal is that it helps generate nitrogen, which is beneficial for plants. Many growers also use this natural product to strengthen the natural resistance of the crops. It keeps pests and diseases at a distance.
Basalt flour is easy to spread over a crop. It is advisable to spray with water in this case so that the basalt flour is thoroughly mixed with the clay soil.
Depending on national regulations, the Floral Foam block may simply be disposed of with organic waste!
Is it reusable?
If you have leftover pieces after cutting the 100% Natural Floral Foam to size or if you remove the flowers after use, you can cut the blocks or pieces into small flakes and then use them as a substitute (substrate) for soil in your flowerpot, planter etc.
How much time does a block need to absorb water if I put it in a container of water?
A block of 23X10X7.5 cm absorbs the water in 10 seconds and then holds it well.
If you put a block in water and you remove it after a while, is the water discoloured by the microfibre like other floral foam blocks?
No, it does not discolour the water and leaves no harmful microfibres behind.
Is it easy to cut into shapes?
It is very easy to cut into any shape.
This can be done with a rock wool knife or with any knife such as a bread knife.
Is there nutrition already processed in the blocks?
Small EC increase (EC 0.8) due to Ecose ® binding.
What is the Ph value of the blocks?
Ph is neutral (Ph 7.0).
Does it crumble or do pieces break off during cutting?
Almost nothing crumbles or breaks off the block.
If you put the stem in the block, does it hold the stem well? And can you re-insert it?
The 100% Natural Floral Foam holds the flower stalk firmly in the block, and you can also put the flower stem in again. Clamp well in the pot or vase due to the resilience.
This mineral rock wool is also used (but in a different density) in your substrates and related agricultural products. Does that mean that you can also grow plants on these blocks?
Everything grows on this medium as long as it is kept wet as needed and nutrients are added.
QUESTIONS ABOUT SAFETY AND PROCESSING
If you do not reuse the product and want to throw it in the compost container, is that allowed?
If you do not reuse the waste, you may deposit it in small numbers in the green container (end user) depending on the legislation of your country, but not in large industrial quantities.
It may even be shredded together with the flowers and disposed of with the compost. This is done, for example, at natural cemeteries.
According to the label on the box, you should rinse with water in case of irritation. Does this mean that it is irritating?
No, it does not irritate. Only people with sensitive skin may experience some slight skin irritation. According to the law, this safety information must be displayed on the label.
Do you have to wear protective clothing when processing it?
You should wear protective clothing only if you cut, saw and process it in large industrial quantities, in which case the room must also be ventilated.
Which is the top side of the block and how do I make it wet?
The smooth side with grooves is the top side meant for inserting the stems.
For fresh flowers, you wet the block or sheet by pouring water over it or immersing it in water until it is completely wet. After that, you can allow any residual water to drain off, after which it is ready for use.
QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT IT IS MADE OF
What is it made of and in what proportion?
It is made of 97% Basalt and 3% binder (ECOSE ®).
What is basalt?
Basalt is volcanic rock. The residual product is basalt sand (meal).
What is the advantage of using the residual product basalt meal?
Basalt sand (meal) is specifically intended for modifying and improving clay soil for example.
The young volcanic basaltic rock, which, unlike lava flour, is not ground and therefore has a harder structure, contains silicon, trace elements and minerals.
It not only makes heavy clay soil easier to work on, plants also thrive in it.
This is because it strengthens the cell wall,, stimulates growth, and allows bulb plants to root more deeply.
Another advantage of using basalt sand (meal) is that it helps capture nitrogen.
Many growers use this natural product to strengthen the natural resistance of their crops.
It also helps in combating pests and diseases.
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE NAME
What does Agra-Wool stand for?
Agra: We first started as a producer of natural mineral rock wool products for agriculture and horticulture. Agricultural in Dutch is "Agrarisch"
Wool: Because we make everything from natural mineral wool.
Why do you call it Foam when you claim that it is a completely natural product without petrochemicals?
We market our florist products under the name 100% Natural Floral Foam.
However, there are no petrochemical materials used in our products.
We use this name to keep it recognizable for florists.
A name such as ‘Agra-Wool Block’ would not be easily associated with floral foam and its uses.
Is your product the perfect replacement for the regular floral foam?
We think that with our products we cannot yet fully meet everyone's wishes.
However, we do our best to make an environmentally friendly line of products that come as close as possible to doing just that.
